Mentor Timeline

 

January

  • Notification of mentee
  • Mentors make initial contact with their mentee.

February

  • Attend Parent Orientation.
  • Help mentee fill out paperwork for her program.

March - June

  • Encourage physical preparation if going on a wilderness or community service program.
  • Mental preparation: find books or materials that tell about her destination, prepare her for her plane trip, talk to your mentee about group living, outdoor living, and about the diversity of the participants.
  • Help in arranging transportation through a designated travel agent.
  • Help with the acquisition of equipment for trips. Passport will help cover costs if the participant is unable to.  Passport also has equipment available to loan to the mentees.
  • Coordinate with the Passport office on transportation needs to and from the airport. You may be asked to help with transportation.

August/September

  • Get together with your mentee when she returns to hear about her trip.  Remember her life has changed, but the world she is returning to is the same.

October

  • Attend the Fall Event to celebrate the girls' successful completion of their programs.

During the remainder of her junior and senior years, check in on a regular basis.  Continue to give encouragement and guidance concerning her life choices and college plans.  Each girl will participate in the college program offered by Passport.
